Finnischen Melodic Metal der Extraklasse bekamen wir beim Debütalbum der Jungs von STARGAZERY geboten. Aus einem Haufen gestandener finnischer Musiker bestehend, mischten die Jungs die Szene ordentlich auf. Nun steht  Album Nummer Zwei in den Startlöchern und ich konnte, dem etwas schweigsamen Frontmann Jari Tiura ein paar Antworten entlocken. Ein typischer Finne halt : - )

J.P: Hallo Jari. vielen Dank das du mir ein paar Fragen zu eurem neuen Album und zu euch selbst als Band beantwortest. Für die Leute die euch noch nicht kennen, stell dich und die Band doch einfach mal kurz vor und gib uns einen kurzen Überblick über eure Bandgeschichte?

J.T: Hi Julian, vielen Dank auch dir. Nun STARGAZERY gründeten sich im Jahre 2005 und das Line Up sieht wie folgt aus. Pete Ahonen (Gitarre), Marco Sneck (Keyboard), Jussi Ontero (Schlagzeug), Jukka Jokikokko (Bass) und mir dem Sänger Jari Tiura : - )

J.P: Bevor wir auf euer neues Album eingehen, werfen wir nochmal einen Blick zurück auf euer Debüt. Wie zufrieden seid ihr denn mit dem Album rückblickend, wie kam es bei den Fans und der Presse an? 

J.T: Wir sind eigentlich sehr zufrieden mit unserem Debüt. Es war das erste Mal das wir als Band zusammengearbeitet haben und ich habe die anderen Jungs als großartige Musiker kennen gelernt. Es lief alles super bei den Aufnahmen zum Album.

J.P: Viele von euch sind ja noch in anderen Bands aktiv. Siehst du das als Problem? Welchen Stellenwert hat  STARGAZERY für euch?

J.T: Für mich ist STARGAZERY sehr wichtig, aber ich verstehe natürlich auch die Jungs die noch bei anderen Bands aktiv sind. Für mich ist das Wichtigste einfach die Konzentration auf die aktuelle Band, wenn ich in mehreren Bands spiele, aber ich kann mit der Situation gut umgehen.

J.P: Gehen wir nun mal etwas näher auf euer neues Album „Stars Aligned“ ein. Kannst du uns etwas über den Aufnahmeprozess sagen? Von wann bis wann habt ihr daran gearbeitet? 

J.T: 2012 haben wir angefangen über ein neues Album nachzudenken. Wir haben ein paar Shows gespielt nachdem wir das Debütalbum veröffentlicht haben und wir waren insgesamt sehr beschäftigt. Nachdem wir uns etwas Ruhe gegönnt hatten, waren wir wieder bereit und Pete sandte mir ein paar Songideen und ich schrieb dann dazu die ersten Texte. Ich lebe 400 Meilen weit weg von den anderen Bandmitgliedern, deshalb musste ich öfters zu ihnen fahren. Dort in unserem Hauptquartier, haben wir alles was wir brauchen zum Aufnehmen. Wir nahmen also alle Songs auf, Jussi unsere Schlagzeuger mixte das Album und Minerva Pappi übernahm das Mastering.

J.P: Wie würdest du euren Stil beschreiben? Ich denke mal Melodic Heavy Metal trifft es am Besten oder? Von was handeln eure Songs meistens? Was sind so eure Themen?

J.T: Ich denke Melodic Heavy Metal trifft es ganz gut. Wenn ich die Texte schreibe während ich mir die Songs anhöre, höre ich auf meine erste Eingebung. Oftmals dreht sich in meinen Texten alles um die Liebe oder irgendwelche Mysterien des Lebens. Helden, Krieger, Katastrophen so etwas halt. Eine Art Reflektion des Lebens angereichert mit ein bisschen Historie oder Fantasy.

J.P: Gehen wir mal auf ein paar Songs vom neuen Album ein. Für mich sind „Voodoo“, „Missed the Train to Paradise“, „Dim the Halo“ und „Bring me the Night“ die hervorstechenden Songs. Willst du uns über diese ein bisschen was erzählen? Hast du eigentlich auch irgendwelche Favoriten auf dem Album? 

J.T: Sehr gut ausgesucht. Da kann ich dir eigentlich nur zustimmen. Ich sehe aber immer das gesamte Album und höre mir meistens unsere Songs im Nachhinein nicht mehr an. Wenn wir auf Tour sind übe ich natürlich die Songs, aber danach beschäftige ich mich halt mit neuen Dingen. Die Welt ist einfach zu interessant geworden.

J.P: Eine Frage zur Labelsituation. Ihr seid ja bei dem deutschen Label Pure Steel Records unter Vertrag. Seid ihr zufrieden mit eurer Wahl? Wie lief der Kontakt so ab?

J.T: Es läuft sehr gut. Sie machen einen großartigen Job und nebenbei sind es auch noch nette Leute.

J.P: Finnland scheint ja ein richtiges Metalland zu sein. Warum glaubst du ist das so? Ständig kommen von euch neue Bands und neue Alben, woher kommt diese Flut an guten Bands bei euch?

J.T: Vier Jahreszeiten, eine Menge Dunkelheit, Schnee und eine unberührte Natur. So würde ich unser Land beschreiben. Es sind einfach harte Bedingungen zum leben und das gibt uns denke ich mal einiges an Kraft und Inspiration. Das ganze Umfeld ist einfach perfekt für den Heavy Metal.

J.P: Seid ihr eigentlich Berufsmusiker, oder geht ihr noch normalen Jobs nach um so eure Brötchen zu verdienen?

J.T: Wir haben alle noch reguläre Jobs. Zwei von uns haben auch noch Kinder, von daher können wir uns einfach nicht drauf verlassen, das mit der Musik genug an Geld reinkommt. Als ich Mitglied der MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP war konnte ich von der Musik gut leben, aber ich bin zufrieden mit der aktuellen Situation. Ich kann einfach etwas nicht 24 Stunden, 7 Tage die Woche machen. Ich brauche einfach Abwechslung, weißt du was ich meine.

J.P: Jari wie geht es denn jetzt genau bei STARGAZERY weiter? Was steht bei dir selbst als nächstes an?

J.T: Bei STARGAZERY haben wir einige Showanfragen. Vielleicht kommen noch ein, zwei Festivals hinzu, das wäre toll. Ich selbst habe gerade mein erste Solo Album aufgenommen und hoffe es später in diesem Jahr zu veröffentlichen. Mein zweites Solo Album ist aber schon in der Mache. Ich werde dort mit einigen Gastmusikern zusammenarbeiten. Es gibt auch noch einige andere Projekte an denen ich beteiligt bin, aber da kann ich noch nicht so drüber sprechen.

J.P: Vielen Dank Jari für deine Zeit und die interessanten Antworten im Zuge dieses Interview! Ich wünsche euch alles Gute für die Zukunft, die letzten Worte gehören natürlich dir.

J.P: Hi Jari it’s me Julian from Rock-Garage.com is speaking. Thank you that you answer me a few questions about your new album and STARGAZERY itself.
For those people who did not know you, can you introduce the band first and show the previous career?

J.T:  Hi Julian, thank you. Okay, STARGAZERY is formed in the year of mercy 2005. And the line-up is now Pete Ahonen, guitar. Marco Sneck, Keyboards. Jussi Ontero, drums and Jukka Jokikokko, bass. This is leadsinger whos speaking here J

J.P: Before we discuss the new album, we take a look back on your debut record . How satisfied are you with the debut and how are the reactions of the fans and the press?

J.T: I´m very pleased about the outcome. There is nice spark between the band members and it was the first time i made music with those guys. I never met them before and i found them like great musicians. For the album all went really well.

J.P: Many of you are still active in other bands. Is this is a problem for you? How important is STARGAZERY for you and the guys who are involved in other bands?

J.T: STARGAZERY is very important to me and I understand the guys have other bands. I can understand it but I don’t have to like it J. In my opinion concentration is the word when aiming high as a band but I have to live with this situation.

J.P: Let us look now closer at your new album “Stars Aligned”. Can you tell us about the recording process? From when to when you've worked?

J.T: It was year 2012 when we started to think about new album. We did couple of shows after debut album was released and it was kind of busy time for all of us in many ways. So after we cleared out that we gonna make a new album Pete started to send demos to me and  I started to do some lyrics. I live 400 miles away from other members so I had to drive to Oulu many times, as usual. There is studio facilities and our headquarter. It was fun mostly. We recorded the songs and Jussi, our drummer, mixed the album and Minerva Pappi mastered it. Both Jussi and Minerva are such a gem when we talk about mixing and mastering.

J.P: How would you describe your music style? I guess Melodic Heavy Metal makes it the best right? What did you want to tell us with your songs? What are your song themes?

J.T: MHM is close enough for me. When I do lyrics while listening demos I discover my first impression about the song. Many times it turns to love and that kind of stuff but also mysteries of life, brave men, noble ladies, warriors, ancient time etc. It kind of reflecting these days dressed with old world`s codes. Something like that.

J.P: Let us look at the songs. For me „Voodoo“, „Missed the Train to Paradise “, „Dim the Halo“ and „Bring me the Night “ are the best songs. Can you tell us something about these songs? Are these also your favorite songs on the album?

J.T: Those are cool choices. I do agree with you. For me it is a whole thing. The album. I do not really listen our songs. When touring I check the songs but after that i`m going forward and discovering new things. The world is even more interesting place right now.

J.P: A question to the labelsituation. You are under contract by Pure Steel Records an established label in germany. How satisfied are you with your label choice? How did the contact works?

J.T: It works really well, they`re doing good job. Great people.

J.P: Finnland seems to be a real Metal Country. What do you think are the reasons for that? A lot of new bands and albums every year, from where came these bands?
Perhaps you can explain us the finish Metal Scene?

J.T: Four Seasons, lot of darkness , snow, nature itself. Hard conditions sometimes when working and  living your everyday life. I think it gives some stamina to us. Skillful players and singers. Whole package is made for Metal.

J.P: Are you actually professional musicians, or do you have regular jobs to pay your bills?

J.T: We all have regular jobs. Two of us have kids so we have no time to wait if theres any money available for the artist J. With MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP I was lucky enough to spend professional time when talking about money. For me this is great solution because probably I couldn`t stand this as 24/7 work. I need opposites to deliver, you know.

J.P: Jari what comes next for STARGAZERY? Is a tour planned? What’s next for yourself?

J.T: For STARGAZERY we have some negotiations for bookings/management. Hopefully festivals. For myself, my first solo album is finished. I`m gonna put it out this year. I started to do my second solo album too.Theres gonna be some household names as a guest musicians. I think we all know them. Couple of other projects going on but I don’t wanna reveal anything about it yet.
